The Australian Open is upon us. The season’s first Grand Slam in Melbourne Park is a highlight for tennis fans. Up until now, there has been talk on topics that were already unbearable. However, they become cringeworthy when play begins.
Here are three topics fans do not want to hear about during the fortnight at the 2025 Australian Open.
1. Jannik Sinner’s Doping Case
Jannik Sinner is the defending Australian Open champion and the World No. 1 men’s player. His doping case has provided too many talking points for players (Nick Kyrgios) and media people who do not know the specifics of his case.
Let Sinner play the game, defend his title, and let fans enjoy his mastery of it. Whatever happens with his case will be known and publicized in the spring.
2. Elena Rybakina’s Coaching Situation
Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon Champion, has told us everything we need to know because she has been repeatedly asked the same questions. Goran Ivanisevic is her coach. Stefano Vukov is acting in an advisory manner during his suspension. She also said that she is not the victim of any abuse and is disappointed in people like Pam Shriver sharing their opinions on the situation who have never spoken to her personally.
Rybakina being asked if she’s gonna be coached by Goran at #AO2025” As you see we’re here, we are working yes it’s him”. Cold answer 😭 🥶 she looks so annoyed. pic.twitter.com/1uJEwZIqNF

Let Rybakina play. On a good day when healthy, she can challenge any of the top players for the Australian Open title.
3. Danielle Collins’s Icy Handshakes
Danielle Collins on handshakes in tennis:
“I’m a human. I have situations I like & don’t like.. I try to poke fun at myself. Fans think they know players personally. They think they know what takes place on a daily basis, but they really don’t”

Danielle Collins had a great 2024 and hinted at retirement, but she is back for 2025. Her game is fun, but sometimes her demeanor is not. She is known for cajoling fans and opponents during matches. No one wants to get in the weeds on these issues during the Australian Open so please let’s stop the talk and attention to all things Collins that do not pertain to shotmaking.
