Australia will send medical supplies, financial support and military equipment, but not weapons, to Ukraine to help as it fights its war against Russia.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the federal government had been working with NATO to work out how Australia could best support Ukraine.
"We can provide non-lethal military equipment and medical supplies to support the people of Ukraine," he said.
"That is the most effective way for us to do that.
"We are a long way from Ukraine and the most effective way is to be doing that is through our NATO partners."
Ukrainian forces are battling Russian invaders around nearly all of the country's perimeter after Moscow mounted a mass assault by land, sea and air in the biggest attack on a European state since World War II.
Mr Morrison also said Australia would send financial support to Ukraine via NATO.
"If there are ways that Australia can assist those efforts, whether it is in medical packs or other things like this, then we stand ready to do that," he said.
The government has ruled out sending troops over to join the war.
After flagging it yesterday, Mr Morrison also added members of Russia's parliament to Australia's list of sanctioned individuals.
He also took the opportunity to remind businesses to remain on high alert for cyber attacks but noted there had been no confirmed reports of any attacks in Australia yet.
