An Australian man has used a forklift to stop his car from being stolen in Queensland, Australia.
Brendan Mills and his family returned to their home in Logan, west of Brisbane, to find a woman inside their red Volkswagen Polo who he said refused to get out on Sunday afternoon.
Quick-thinking Mr Mills, who works with cars, said he used his “trusty” forklift to suspend the alleged thief in the air so she couldn’t make a getaway in his car.
“It happened rather fast, you have got adrenaline pumping. The fact that they didn’t want to get out of the car (when we arrived) was strange,” he told Sunrise.
“I didn’t know who was in there or what weapons they had. My family were nearby and my number one goal is keeping them safe.
“I am quite comfortable on my trusty forklift here, so what better way to handle it?”
Police arrested women once the car was slowly lowered to the ground.
In a video released by police, an officer could be heard saying: “Just stop there, out you get.”
The woman was subsequently charged with burglary and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
She was granted bail to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on July 13.
Police discouraged others from taking action like Mr Mills did.
A police spokesperson said: “To ensure community safety, police recommend members of the public not engage in methods of disrupting criminal activity which may involve risk of personal harm or further legal recourse.”
