Australia's Daniel Faalele is set to become the heaviest player in the NFL after being drafted by the Baltimore Ravens.

Melbourne-born Faalele was delighted to be joining the Ravens after being selected in the fourth round, as pick number 110 on Sunday (AEST).

At 203 centimetres tall and weighing 174 kilograms, the 22-year-old offensive tackle is regarded as a raw talent with huge potential.

Faalele was looking forward to working under Baltimore's offensive line coach, Joe D'Alessandris, after meeting with him before the draft.

"Coach 'D' is an awesome coach. We had a great meeting," Faalele said.

"He just gave me that confidence. I know I'm in good hands. I had a good feeling there that we would be a good fit, and I'm just happy that everything worked out."

With a basketball and rugby background, Faalele moved to the US six years ago to pursue a football career and played three seasons and 31 games for the University of Minnesota after attending the IMG Academy in Florida.

"I didn't know what a first down was or anything," Faalele told ESPN in 2018. "I didn't know the positions or what roles they played. That was surprising."
