Australia will send $1 million in aid to Afghanistan after deadly earthquakes struck the country.
At least 2400 people were killed and more than 2000 injured in the earthquakes - one a magnitude 6.3 - that hit the northwest city of Herat on Saturday.
The impoverished nation's Infrastructure remains poor after decades of war and lack of foreign aid since the Taliban took power in August 2021.
The government stressed the assistance will go to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund, led by the UN and will not fund the Taliban regime.
Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong said she was deeply troubled by the loss of life and destruction in the nation.
"Australia's support will be delivered through independent agencies to provide basic needs such as shelter, food and medicine," she said.
"Australia stands with the people of Afghanistan."
Australia has previously committed $50 million for this financial year to tackling the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan.
