Australia's Brooke Buschkuehl has finished an agonising two centimetres short of a medal in the women's long jump at the World Athletic Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

The ever-consistent Buschkuehl's best jump of 6.87 metres came in the second round of the final, in which she finished in fifth place.

Germany's Malaika Mihambo (7.12m) added a second successive world title to her Tokyo Olympics gold medal.

Esa Brume from Nigeria (7.02m) and Brazil's Leticia Oro Melo (6.89m) claimed the minor medals.

Buschkuehl, 29, bettered her six-year-old personal best with a leap of 7.13m in California earlier this month.

The Commonwealth Games silver medallist has now finished inside the top 10 at the past two Olympics and the 2017, 2019 and 2022 world championships.
