No calf concerns for Starc as T20 World Cup ramps up

Mitchell Starc has eased any concerns over his fitness ahead of a crunch stage of the Twenty20 World Cup, with scans clearing the quick of injury.

Starc left the field after his third over in Australia's tournament opener against Oman earlier this month, and battled soreness in last weekend's win over England.

The left-armer was rested from Australia's win over Namibia on Wednesday, before returning to bowl with good control against Scotland on Sunday.

Starc said scans had confirmed no damage was sustained to his calf, and that he had only been battling cramp.

"It hung around through the England game. But I had a scan and it was all clear," Starc said.

"We gave it the extra few days with the Namibia game and back into it today and all good to go.

"Better off doing it in the first half of the tournament than when it gets busy in the second half."

Australia will play Bangladesh in their first Super Eight game on Friday (AEDT), assuming the Tigers account for Nepal in Monday's final group game.

Matches against Afghanistan and India then follow on Sunday and Tuesday respectively, with the top two sides from the four-team group reaching the semi-finals.

Australia are also preparing for spin to play a major factor in their remaining games, with circumstances having allowed them to bowl 12 overs of turners against Scotland.

With Pat Cummins rested and Marcus Stoinis placed on light duties, Ashton Agar played his first game of the tournament and bowled four overs alongside Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa.

"It's put us in a different situation tonight to test that," Starc said.

"Whether it's something we have to do in the next three or five games, we'll see."
