United States international defender Auston Trusty has officially signed a five-year deal with Scottish champions Celtic. The deal, valued at $7.8 million, was confirmed by the club on Friday. Trusty, 26, makes the move from Championship side Sheffield United, where he spent two seasons after transferring from Arsenal for $6.4 million.
During his time at Sheffield United, Trusty made 34 appearances last season as the team faced relegation from the Premier League. His arrival at Celtic will see him team up with fellow U.S. international Cameron Carter-Vickers.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers expressed his excitement about Trusty joining the squad, highlighting his speed, strength, athleticism, and experience. Rodgers emphasized Trusty's positive impact on the team's defensive line and his eagerness to contribute to the club's success.
Trusty's professional career began with the Philadelphia Union in 2016, where he played for the reserve side Bethlehem Steel before making his first-team debut in 2018. After stints with the Union and the Colorado Rapids, Trusty briefly joined Arsenal in 2022 before returning to Colorado for a loan spell and later moving to Birmingham City on loan.
On the international stage, Trusty has represented the U.S. at various age levels, including the U17 and U20 World Cups in 2015. He has earned two senior caps for the national team, with his most recent appearance coming in the CONCACAF Nations League final victory over Canada in June 2023.
Trusty's signing adds depth and quality to Celtic's defensive options as they aim to compete for domestic and European honors in the upcoming seasons.
