Austin McBroom forced to QUIT with injury in third round of rematch with AnEsonGib

AnEsonGib won his rematch with Austin McBroom when the American was forced to retire in the third round.

After a close opening two sessions, McBroom appeared to hurt his ankle and stopped the fighting. The referee attempted to give him time to recover as he administered a count, but it was clear McBroom was in no position to continue and the fight was waved off with AnEsonGib declared the winner.

"There’s no room to celebrate, we are moving onto the semi-finals," said the Brit. "Jarvis I am coming for you, whoever is then in the final I am coming for you next. Camp was excellent, I felt great compared to my first fight. So much for Austin McBroom coming back into this tough tournament."

AnEsonGib lands on Austin McBroom (KingPyn Boxing)

AnEsonGib had already stopped McBroom in their first fight last September, recovering from an early knockdown to record five of his own before the fight was waved off. The rivals were then drawn together in the first round of the Kingpyn Boxing tournament which sees eight fighters battle it out for a place in the final. After his victory, AnEsonGib will take on Jarvis who stopped DJ Tom Zanetti with King Kenny taking on Whindersson in the other semi-final in Dublin on June 3.

The rivals' second affair was a quiet one for as long it lasted with McBroom showing some technical improvements from their first skirmish. Neither man was willing to be gung-ho which made for a tentative - and hard to score - opening three minutes. That pattern continued into the second session but both fighters came alive as the round progressed. AnEsonGib landed the better shots as he followed a hook with an uppercut.

But McBroom responded well in the dying stages as he looked to have set up an intriguing second half of the fight. But after appearing to tire at the start of the third round, he pulled up injured and in some discomfort. The referee tried in vain to convince McBroom to continue but the visiting fighter felt he had no choice but to quit, although replays were inconclusive as to the nature of his injury.

Elsewhere in the tournament, 6ar6ie6 beat Whitney Johns via unanimous decision, Emily Brooke outpointed Amber O'Donnell and Elle Brooke was taken the distance by Ms. Danielka. And in a special attraction fight, rapper Blueface stopped Ed Matthews in what was a hastily-arranged short-notice contest.
