Austin MacPhee keeps Aston Villa coaching role after Steven Gerrard sacking

FORMER Hearts assistant manager Austin MacPhee is to remain part of backroom staff at Aston Villa under new boss Unai Emery.

The Scot has been working with the Premier League club as a set-piece specialist since August 2021 and retained his role following the sacking of Steven Gerrard as manager a fortnight ago.

MacPhee is also part of Steve Clarke’s staff with the Scotland national team.

A Villa statement confirming a behind the scenes reshuffle read: “Aston Villa can confirm that goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler has left the club.

“We would like to thank Neil for all his hard work throughout his four years with Aston Villa and wish him all the very best in his future career.

“Aaron Danks will be leaving the first-team set-up and is considering a new role within the club.

“Austin MacPhee will remain as part of the first-team coaching set-up.”
