Now more than ever, Carolina Panthers fans are quite invested in the recovery of right guard Austin Corbett. And on Tuesday, he gave us the latest scoop.
Corbett, who is still working is way back from a torn ACL, took questions following this morning’s practice session. He was asked by Joe Person of The Athletic if he hopes to avoid starting the regular season on the physically unable to perform list.
“That’s obviously everyone’s goal, right?” he replied with a laugh. “But really, there’s still no true idea on how this might progress. We’ve continued to add more into my rehab and continue to do more change of direction. Everything’s been goin’ good. Not swellin’ up at all, no setbacks. So just continuin’ to add more.”
If Corbett is placed on the PUP, he’ll be out for at least the first four games of the 2023 campaign. That’s a particularly rough prospect for Carolina to ponder, especially after the disappointing performance from their offensive line in the 27-0 loss to the New York Jets this past Saturday.
As of now, the competition to temporarily replace Corbett is brewing. The newest development of the battle saw fourth-round pick Chandler Zavala take a good chunk of starting reps at the right guard spot on Tuesday.
Then, when asked if the PUP is a realistic option, Corbett refused to play doctor.
“I’ll leave that to the people upstairs, right?” he said. “That’s why they’re in charge, and I’m just here to do what they tell me and hopefully get out there sooner rather than later.”
