The return of Austin Corbett can’t come any sooner for the Carolina Panthers—especially after a day where their quarterback and their running game were absolutely sacked.
Head coach Frank Reich was asked about the status of his starting right guard, who is now eligible to be activated from the reserve/physically unable to perform list. Corbett has been sidelined for the four-game minimum of the designation, and can now be given a 21-day window to get back to the practice field.
Reich, however, didn’t seem ready to divulge too much detail.
“Lookin’ forward to seeing him back out on the practice field soon,” he told reporters on Monday. “I would anticipate that as soon as he’s ready to get out there and practice with us, he’ll be out there. And we have talked about the timeline to get him on the field for a game, and not ready to talk about that just yet.”
He was then asked about the timeline for a return to practice.
“It could be soon,” he replied. “It could be really soon.”
Corbett, who tore his ACL in the 2022 season finale, could’ve really been of use in Week 4’s 21-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Not only did quarterback Bryce young hit the deck for five sacks, but the rushing attack amassed all of 83 yards on a bulky 31 carries.
Third-year veteran Calvin Throckmorton, an addition prior to Week 1, has started the last two games at right guard.
