Auper InCity Electric Motorcycle Is Designed For Brazil’s Busy Streets

Electric two-wheelers are rapidly gaining traction in many parts of the world. A lot of them have utility, practicality, and affordability in mind, but some of them break the mold by focusing on things such as performance and enjoyment. An example of this is the new InCity, an urban electric motorcycle by Brazilain startup Auper.

Auper, headquartered in Canada, has a clear mission in mind: to make advanced electric motorcycles accessible to a wider audience. As such, the InCity is a technological marvel that boasts a high level of safety and security, and of course, performance. From a styling perspective the Auper InCity is thoroughly futuristic boasting a sleek silhouette and streamlined design. With that being said, the InCity’s head-turning looks are merely the cherry atop this techie two-wheeler.

Auper boasts an extensive array of safety features specifically thanks to what it’s calling the Vehicle Control Unit (VCU). The device serves as a central hub for the bike’s advanced safety and security features, translating to improved reliability and lower cost. Speaking of safety features, Auper has thrown a bunch of security tech into the InCity precisely because of high motorcycle theft rates in Brazil. According to Auper, all of the bike’s electronic components are encrypted to the bike’s owner, making it virtually impossible for thieves to use or sell stolen parts.

Apart from the comprehensive array of tech features, another notable feature of the InCity is its motor, which has been designed to provide impressive performance, while at the same time being affordable and eco-friendly. The InCity makes use of a magnet-free electric motor developed by the company’s partner Enedym Inc. Auper claims that the motor propels the bike to a top speed of 150 kilometers per hour (94 miles an hour) and an impressive zero to 60 mile-per-hour sprint of just five seconds. As for the battery, it gets a 4.8-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack that can provide up to 60 miles of range on a single charge.

Last but not least, safety isn’t left out of the equation, as the Auper InCity comes standard with front and rear disc brakes equipped with ABS. There’s also traction control, and an interesting haptic feedback system on the saddle to keep riders alert. Smart lighting also improves visibility when riding at night. All these features can be managed via Auper’s IIC, or Intelligent Instrument Cluster, which serves as a speedometer and battery monitor when riding, and provides traffic information and performance metrics when stopped.

Best of all, Auper hopes to launch the InCity in Brazil for a very affordable price. Once launched, the bike is expected to retail for less than 18,000 Brazilian real, or about $5,000. There will also be a long-range version with a larger battery capable of providing up to 230 kilometers (144 miles) of range. This version is expected to retail for around $7,500.
