Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream review: does it live up to hype?

Five years ago, Augustinus Bader changed the skincare space forever.

The multihypenate founder - a globally recognised biomedical scientist, physician and one of the foremost experts in the field of stem cell biology and regenerative medicine - unveiled his eponymous label with The Rich Cream as one of the pre-eminent products.

Quickly becoming a skincare holy grail, the moisturiser is the embodiment of the brand’s “revolutionary science, biological wisdom” mantra. The collection, formulated in Germany and made in France, was created to give the skin what it needs to work at its best. The formulations harness stem cell research to repair and revitalise with the patented Trigger Factor Complex (TFC8) that stimulates the complexion’s own renewal process. It’s all about tangible results in the improvement of texture, tone and the skin’s strength.

With normal to oily skin types in mind, The Cream is quickly absorbing, while The Rich Cream is more intense for normal to dry. The latter was created by hand by Bader himself to put the bounce back into your skin, minimise the appearance of fine lines, heal scars, and boost radiance.

In this short time, the creams have lapped up the accolades with The Rich Cream deemed ‘The Greatest Skincare of All Time’. As a testament to their efficacy, the label counts the likes of - deep breath - Victoria Beckham, Charlize Theron, Courteney Cox, Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Aniston, Leonardo DiCaprio, Salma Hayek, Meghan Markle, Gigi Hadid, Kate Hudson, Margot Robbie, Pat McGrath, Michelle Yeoh and many more among its ever-growing fan-base.

It will come as no surprise then that we were eager to get our hands on the daily moisturiser. If the celebrity testimonials weren’t enough to draw us in, then check out the clinical trials. In just one month, forehead wrinkles were visibly reduced by 37 per cent, and crow’s feet wrinkles by 54 percent. In the same time, skin felt 92 per cent firmer, 110 per cent more elastic and skin hydration had improved by 145 per cent.

The user trials had the same rave reviews. Over a 12-week period, 95 per cent agreed the appearance of fine lines/wrinkles were dramatically improved, 94 per cent agreed dark spots, age spots and imperfections were visibly reduced, and 91 per cent agreed skin looked five years younger. All participants agreed skin felt instantly hydrated and nourished and that redness appeared calmed and reduced. To top it off, 94 per cent agreed skin has never looked so healthy and refined and 99 per cent agreed skin looked renewed, revitalized and rejuvenated.

Dubbed by its loyal following as “the one that works”, we tried The Rich Cream to see if it lived up to the hype.

Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream

Every inch of The Rich Cream is a luxuious experience; from the packaging, to the bottle to the formula itself. One of the heroes in the Augustinus Bader collection, it is the embodiment of 30 years of research, combining anti-ageing benefits, while nourishing the complexion at the same time. As is clear from the name, this is a counterpart to the original and lighter The Cream with a more intense, thicker composition, but it remains an easily absorbed moisturiser that is gulped down greedily by parched skin without leaving a greasy finish.

The brand’s signature and proprietary TFC8 is at the heart and is a blend of natural amino acids, vitamins and synthesized molecules to enrich the skin with important nutrients to even out texture and firm at the same time. This is combined with argan, avocado and evening primrose oil that are ultra moisturising and restorative with calming and soothing benefits. This cream can be used by all skin types, even those with acne-prone as it’s non-comedogenic and sensitive as it’s vegan and free from nasties like sulphates and silicone, for a healthy, dewy glow.

Two pumps of the product is all you need to layer onto the face, neck and decollete so a little goes a long way, making that initial layout seem far more palatable.

Verdict

The silky smooth cream texture is a delight to apply. It glides onto the skin, absorbing quickly with no greasy residue yet imparts a dewy radiance. As far as the anti-ageing concerns go, I’m using it as a preventative treatment and it is plumping for the emerging fine lines across my forehead. The price tag is expensive, there’s no denying that, but the light texture only requires a pump or two and so it lasts a good three/four months.
