Audit Wales relocates to new office location in Cardiff

Audit Wales has relocated to the 1 Capital Quarter office building in the centre of Cardiff.

The organisation, which through its Auditor General audits and reports on public bodies in Wales, has taken 15,000 sq ft of recently refurbished space on the ground floor (5,000 sq ft ) and first floor (10,000 sq ft) of the building at the Cardiff Quarter office led development.

Audit Wales, advised by JLL, has entered into ten lease with the owner of the 89,000 sq ft building Global Gate Capital Ltd - whose joint marketing agents are Knight Frank and Savills.

Audit Wales was previously located at offices at Cathedral Road in the city.

The latest letting at 1 Capital Quarter follows a recent deal with Regus who has leased fourth and fifth floors at the building, taking 20,000 sq ft on a 10 year term.

Other occupiers in the building, which was initially developed by JR Smart before being acquired by its previous owner the Welsh Government, include BT, Banc, Which?, Sky, Geldards, Optimum and WSP. There is currently only 6,275 sq ft remaining on the eight floor of the building.

Adrian Crompton, Auditor General at Audit Wales, said:” “Our ways of working have been transformed with the adoption of hybrid working and recognising the need to reduce our carbon footprint and be as efficient as possible in the way we conduct our business. While Cathedral Road has served us well over the years, the move to Capital Quarter will provide us with a more modern, accessible workspace in the centre of Cardiff that will better suit our needs.”

Gary Carver, director in the office agency team at Savills’ Cardiff office said:” “We are delighted to welcome both Audit Wales and Regus to 1 Capital Quarter, which has recently been refurbished to a high standard. Additionally, Regus will add an extra element to the building where modern, flexible workspace solutions within the building will be offered to new and existing occupiers, an offering we are seeing increasing demand for as it allows occupiers to flex within the same building they occupy.”

Matt Phillips, managing partner of Knight Frank’s Cardiff office said: “Capital Quarter provides a high quality campus style offer for the city centre which has, and continues, to prove popular with occupiers. Those landlords who have been willing and able to continue to invest in their buildings are best placed to capture occupiers and the high quality refurbishment at 1 Capital Quarter is testament to this approach.”

Rhydian Morris, director at JLL Cardiff, said: “The high quality of accommodation offered at 1 Capital Quarter will provide a new and improved environment for Audit Wales as well as the central location providing easy access for all their staff.”
