Audi flips onto roof in horror crash as Scots teenager taken to hospital

A teenager was taken to hospital after his car flipped onto its roof in a collision at a roundabout near Paisley. Photographs of the incident show a red Audi S3 on its roof at the Phoenix Retail Park in Linwood, at 5pm on Friday night.

Police, fire crews and an ambulance were called to the scene following the horror single vehicle crash. The 19-year-old driver was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital for treatment.

It is understood he was released from hospital last night. Police said the driver has been reported for road traffic offences.

Images show a crowd standing by the vehicle outside of a Vauxhall showroom. The red car can be seen lying upside down in the road, with the driver's side door open. Another image shows two fire vehicles at the scene along with a police car.

A bystander told the Record the two young males inside the vehicle had 'a lucky escape.'

He said: "The motor approached the junction for the McDonald's and careered over the roundabout.

"The weight of engine seemed to cause the front of car to flip and sent it skidding down the road on its roof.

"Several of the staff from Arnold Clark raced out, helping the two occupants out of the vehicle but emergency crews arrived shortly after and took over."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were called to a report of a single vehicle crash on Saturn Avenue, Paisley, around 4.55pm on Friday, 12 August, 2022.

"A 19-year-old man was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital and released following treatment.

"The same man will be reported in connection with road traffic offences."
