Attempted Assassination Foiled At Trump Rally In Butler, PA

According to a federal law enforcement official familiar with the security plans, local law enforcement had responsibility for the building from which Thomas Matthew Crooks fired shots at former President Donald Trump on Saturday. The building served as a 'rally point' for one of the local counter sniper teams, with the team stationed in or near the building. At the Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, there were a total of four counter sniper teams present - two from the Secret Service and two from local law enforcement.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that an officer climbed onto the roof, spotted Crooks armed with a rifle, and then retreated. Shortly after, Crooks began firing shots, leading to a Secret Service counter sniper taking action and fatally shooting Crooks.

This incident highlights the coordinated efforts between federal and local law enforcement agencies in ensuring the safety and security of high-profile events. The quick response and decisive actions taken by the officers on the ground prevented a potentially dangerous situation from escalating further.
