The Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh Police and a team of Ayodhya police on Friday gunned down Anish Khan, who was wanted for attacking a 40-year-old woman constable in the Saryu Express train on August 30.
The encounter took place at Pura Kalandar area in Ayodhya during a joint operation conducted by the UP STF and Ayodhya Police. Three police personnel, including, Sub Inspector Purakalandar Ratan Sharma, were also injured. The police arrested two other men during the encounter.
“Anish who was wanted for an attack on a women constable onboard Saryu Express was injured in an encounter with the police in Ayodhya. The prime accused later succumbed to his injuries. Two of his aides Vishambhar Dayal Dubey and Azad were also injured and arrested,” said Prashant Kumar, Special Director General (DG) law and order, Uttar Pradesh .
The attack on the woman constable led to an uproar with the Allahabad High Court taking suo motu cognisance. The constable was en route to Ayodhya for Sawan Mela duty when the incident happened. The U.P. police announced a reward of ₹1 lakh for information leading to the arrest of the accused who attacked the constable.
