Fans of the long-running anime series 'Attack on Titan' were so eager to watch the epic finale that they collectively ended up crashing the Crunchyroll server.
On the day of the epic finale, the website struggled to handle the surge in traffic, resulting in an unexpected social media outage. The highly anticipated finale titled 'Attack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS Special 2', made its official debut in Japan and was set to be simultaneously available on Crunchyroll for viewers in various regions, including North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, and Southeast Asia.
However, as fans around the world flocked to Crunchyroll to catch the episode, the platform's website experienced technical difficulties. Taking to Twitter, users shared screenshots of the blank page reflecting on the website. The mobile apps also displayed an error message reading, "Oops, something went wrong."
Crunchyroll acknowledged the technical difficulties with a tweet that read, "Our site is experiencing intermittent issues, but we’re working hard to resolve things quickly. We really appreciate your patience!"
Approximately an hour later, the team managed to restore its services, and informed fans in a post that read, "Our service issues have been resolved. Thanks so much for your patience!"
This incident is not the first time that the show 'Attack on Titan' has contributed to the website crashing. A similar situation occurred in January 2022 when the premiere of "Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2" led to service disruptions on both Crunchyroll and Funimation.
The finale of 'Attack on Titan' marks the culmination of a 10-year-long adaptation of the popular manga series. The plot of the finale reads: 'The fate of the world hangs in the balance as Eren unleashes the ultimate power of the Titans. With a burning determination to eliminate all who threaten Eldia, he leads an unstoppable army of Colossal Titans towards Marley. Now a motley crew of his former comrades and enemies scramble to halt his deadly mission, the only question is, can they stop him?'
