ATP Finals: Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz Will Play For The Title

The 2024 ATP Finals matchup has been set.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner will face World No. 4 Taylor Fritz.

Sinner has been virtually unbeatable most of the year, capturing his first two Grand Slams at the Australian and US Open.

Fritz lost to Sinner in the US Open and earlier in the week at the ATP Finals.

Taylor Fritz Has Beaten Jannik Sinner One Time

Taylor Fritz’s only win against Jannik Sinner was in 2021 when Sinner was just entering the scene.

A win is a win, but it almost does not count given how Sinner’s game has evolved in the last 12 months.

Fritz is vying to end the American drought at the ATP Finals which spans 25 years.  The last American to win was Pete Sampras in 1999.  James Blake was the last American to make it to the finals, losing to Roger Federer in 2006.

American tennis fans have been waiting for nearly a generation for an ATP Finals champion. It would be the biggest win of Fritz’s career.

Jannik Sinner Is Playing Without Fear Or Weakness

Sinner is the heavy favorite to win this event.  He is locked in, and having the home crowd supporting him has only benefitted him.

He has shown his mastery of the serve, expert shotmaking, great touch,  and incredible court coverage.

Sinner has also played error-free tennis, not dropping a set at the ATP Finals.

Despite playing the best players in the world, Sinner has managed to separate himself at this event.

He is attempting to become the first Italian player to win the ATP Finals.  Sinner could also be the third man to win the ATP Finals in front of a home crowd.  Lleyton Hewitt won in 2001 in Sydney, and Andy Murray won in 2016 in London.

This is his second year in the finals.  He lost last year to Novak Djokovic.
