Atlético Madrid have finalized a deal with Chelsea for the transfer of Conor Gallagher in a transaction valued at approximately €40 million ($44m). Additionally, Atlético striker Samu Omorodion will be moving to Stamford Bridge in a separate deal for an initial fee of €33m plus €7m in potential add-ons.

It was revealed that Atlético had previously reached an agreement with Chelsea for Gallagher's transfer, pending the player's acceptance of the move. In the event of Gallagher backing out, Atlético had considered pursuing Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra as an alternative.

Simultaneously, Omorodion's transfer to Chelsea coincides with Atlético's recent signings of forward Alexander Sorloth from Villarreal and the impending acquisition of Julián Álvarez from Manchester City.

Omorodion, aged 20, made a strong impression during his loan spell at Deportivo Alaves last season. Both Atlético coach Diego Simeone and Omorodion viewed the upcoming season as crucial for the development of the Spanish under-21 player.

Despite recognizing Omorodion's potential, Atlético decided to list him for transfer to secure immediate impact players and generate funds for Álvarez's transfer. The decision was made with the player's best interests in mind, as both Simeone and Omorodion believed Chelsea offered the optimal environment for his career progression.

Upon the completion of Gallagher and Omorodion's transfers, Atlético anticipates finalizing Álvarez's signing. Gallagher has already arrived in Madrid to finalize his move, with sources close to Simeone expressing satisfaction with the club's transfer activities this window.

Furthermore, Atlético bolstered their defensive ranks by adding Spain defender Robin Le Normand from Real Sociedad earlier in the summer.
