Atletico Madrid receive blow ahead of Champions League clash against Manchester United

Atletico Madrid will be without Yannick Carrasco when they play Manchester United next month.

UEFA have suspended Carrasco for three games following his red card against Porto, which means he'll miss both legs against United in the Champions Round of 16. Carrasco had previously started in all six of Atletico's Champions League games this term.

The forward is a key player for Atletico and his record of two goals and six assists this season isn't a true reflection of his ability.

The first leg of the Round of 16 between United and Atletico is at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on Wednesday, 23 February while the second leg back will be played at Old Trafford weeks later on Tuesday, 15 March.

United will be hoping to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition for the first time since 2019 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Reds have only reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League twice since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club. However, they have enjoyed some success in the Europa League, winning the trophy in 2017 and making the final last year in Gdansk.

The Champions League and the FA Cup are United's only chances of delivering a trophy this season.

Manchester City are favourites to win the Champions League while United are considered outsiders.
