Atletico Madrid fans launch angry Twitter campaign after reports of move for Man United ace Cristiano Ronaldo

Atletico Madrid fans have reacted angrily to reports that their club could be in the running to sign Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 37-year-old has yet to return for pre-season training under new manager Erik ten Hag with the Reds a matter of weeks away from kicking off their Premier League campaign. United's inactivity in the transfer market and a salary reduction are among the issues that have convinced Ronaldo to try and seek a move away from the club, the Manchester Evening News understands.

One of the clubs touted with a move for Ronaldo is Atletico Madrid. However, following his successful spell with Real Madrid, he is no stranger to fans of Los Blancos' rivals and has scored more goals against them than any club, notching 25 times in 37 meetings.

And the Atletico fans are in no mood to forgive and forget. Supporters have taken to social media to vent their anger at the reports. Fans of the Wanda Metropolitano side have taken to Twitter using the hashtag 'ContraCR7' which translates to AgainstCR7.

Ten Hag was recently unable to reveal when Ronaldo will return to training, despite the striker showcasing his preparations on social media. MEN Sport reported on Saturday that the club will soon seek clarification of his return.
