Atletico Madrid captain Koke makes surprising admission after beating Manchester United

Atletico Madrid captain Koke has lauded goalkeeper Jan Oblak after beating Manchester United 1-0.

Atletico progressed to the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday night thanks to Renan Lodi's goal. The La Liga champions took the lead at Old Trafford on the stroke of half-time and tenaciously defended that advantage.

The Spaniards more possession against Diego Simeone's side but failed to convert that into chances. United grew restless as the game progressed and the Reds couldn't find an equaliser despite Rangnick making multiple changes in the second half.

Koke claimed Atletico did deserve to win the tie. But goalkeeper Oblak was identified as the key performer, which might be a surprise.

"We deserved the win in the first leg, but fought so hard here to get what we deserved from this tie," Koke said. "We want to go far in the competition and it's incredible to still be in it. It's important for us to still be in the Champions League in what's an up-and-down season.

"For me, Jan Oblak is the best goalkeeper in the world. He's shown it once again tonight."
