Atletico eye shock William Saliba transfer as Arsenal and Man Utd given major Darwin Nunez boost

Arsenal are pushing for Champions League qualification this season but concerns around squad depth has seen optimism of finishing in the top four take a knock.

Kieran Tierney has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, whilst Thomas Partey could be set for the same fate. Meanwhile, Takehiro Tomiyasu still hasn't returned to the line-up, although he could be back in the squad this week if all goes to plan. Mikel Arteta will be hoping his team respond to three consecutive defeats by putting in winning performances against Chelsea and Manchester United this week as he looks to claw the Gunners back into pole position.

Regardless of whether they qualify for the Champions League, however, Arsenal will be looking to strengthen in the summer, primarily in the central forward and midfield areas. With that in mind, football.london has rounded-up some of the latest transfer rumours surrounding the club.

William Saliba

L'Equipe, as cited by HITC, claim that Atletico Madrid want to sign Arsenal defender William Saliba, as he continues to impress whilst on loan at Marseille. Diego Simeone is said to have made an enquiry for the defender, who is unsure about what his future holds following consecutive seasons on loan after arriving for nearly £30million.

Serge Gnabry

Former Arsenal winger target Serge Gnabry, 26, is in talks with Bayern Munich over a contract extension, according to Goal. The German side are keen to hold on to the pacey forward, who is into the final 15 months of his contract with the club.

The Gunners were thought to be interested in re-signing him, but this will likely put an end to those links.

Darwin Nunez

Arsenal and Manchester United have been given a major boost in their respective pursuits of Benfica striker Darwin Nunez after Newcastle United pulled out of a deal for the 22-year-old.

According to The Telegraph, via the Metro, Newcastle were hoping to sign the Uruguayan at the end of the season but will now end their interest in him as they believe he will move to a club in a position to challenge for Champions League football.
