Atlanta United in Celtic nod over Giakoumakis visa green light as he receives bizarre initiation

Giorgos Giakoumakis is up and running at Atlanta United after having his visa approved as he took part in a bizarre initiation.

The MLS club took to social media yesterday to confirm the big news by posting a video with his famous Celtic 'Giakoumakis comes from Greece' chant with 'confidential' paper work turned over to the back page that displayed the message: "Giorgos Giakoumakis visa approved"

The Greek hitman left Ange Postecoglou's side following 18 months in Glasgow. He won the League Cup and Premiership title in his first season and tasted Champions League football this time around and netted in the group stages. But he missed a chance to make his debut in the MLS opener last week due to his visa not being approved in time. He wasn't able to train until the green light was given with the 28-year-old in line for a debut against Toronto.

He was handed a warm welcome to training with his initiation with his new team-mates taking place. They all lined up either side of the striker as he ran past as they gave him some punches and slaps. The hitman took it all in his stride as he laughed at the routine.

Telling the 17s what they can expect, the former Celtic star explained: “I can score and that’s something that I’ve worked a lot on the last two to three years.

“My best abilities are my strength, my movement, my ability to score. And I think that I'm also mentally strong.”
