A Texas man accused of stalking WNBA star Caitlin Clark disrupted his court proceedings by declaring his guilt in the felony stalking case during his initial hearing.
Starting December 16, 2024, Michael Lewis Jr., 55, began sending threatening and sexually explicit messages to Clark. His actions escalated when he traveled from Texas to Indianapolis to be closer to her.
On Sunday, January 12, 2025, Lewis was eventually arrested after police found him at a hotel where he continued his harassment, Fox 59 reported.
On Tuesday, in his court appearance, Lewis repeatedly interrupted proceedings, declaring his guilt despite being advised to remain silent.
When Judge Angela Davis greeted Lewis, he immediately responded with, "Guilty as charged."
Lewis faces felony stalking charges and a $50,000 bond, with a March 31 pretrial hearing scheduled.
"At this stage, the court is going to enter an initial plea of not guilty," Davis said. "I will not let you come in and plead guilty on the day of the initial hearing."
Additionally, Lewis has been banned from contacting Clark, either directly or indirectly, and is prohibited from coming within 500 feet of two arenas where Clark plays. If he posts bail, he must wear an ankle monitor and remain in Indiana.
