At least three people have been reported dead after a train derailed in the Alps in southern Germany.
The train was headed towards Munich before derailing at around 12.15pm local time in Burgrain, near the resort town of Garmish-Partenkirchen, according to federal police. The derailing has reportedly led to some carriages ending up on their side.

It is not yet clear what the cause of the accident is. The local government in Garmish-Partenkirchen said at least three people were killed in the incident while many others have been injured. It is not yet known how many people were on the train at the time of the accidence.
The line between Garmish-Partenkirchen and Oberau, north of the site of the accident, was closed in response.
