At least 20 killed in latest flare-up of tribal violence in Darfur -medics

Sudanese medics said on Friday that at least 22 people had been shot and killed in violence in West Darfur state over the past week.

The violence in the town of Forbaranga is the latest in growing tribal violence across Sudan's peripheries and in West Darfur in particular.

Clashes have intensified since a 2020 peace deal, and an Ocrober 2021 coup. Ongoing tensions between the army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces could increase insecurity even more.

About 20,000 people were displaced after homes were burned and looted in violence that erupted between Masalit and Arab tribes, according to the United Nations. Some moved across the border to Chad.

The local hospital was shut due to lack of security protection, the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors said.
