At $50M This Glassy Seven-Story House By Rafael Vinoly Was Made For Billionaires To Work And Play

The exterior wall is made of bulletproof glass.

When a titan from the business world gets together with a giant from the world of architecture the result is a 10,400 square foot home over seven floors that looks out onto East 64th Street through a curved wall made entirely of bulletproof glass.

The original vision for the building was that the owner would use it as a base of operations for his New York business needs while also providing a place for him to live when he was in the city. Thus, the first three levels are zoned for either commercial or residential use. Yet the project attracted so much attention during construction that the owner has decided to list it for sale instead of keeping it in his portfolio.

The seller, Eduardo Eurnekian at No. 887 on Forbes Billionaires list, derives part of his wealth from owning about fifty airports around the world. When he joined forces with architect Rafael Vinoly—who conceived the building that sits highest in New York City’s skyline at 432 Park Avenue—it is no surprise they came up with a design that has 36 foot high ceilings and indoor balconies instead of hallways so that light does much more than just flow through the space. More like it gambols around the house with the intensity of a hundred suns.

The balconies also add a nice cascade effect when viewed from below. (Note: most of the photos have been virtually staged).

Glass walls bounce light everywhere.

Above the first few floors is a living room that walks out to a private deck.

Floating stairs complement all the high ceilings and expansive rooms.

The kitchen has a center island surrounded by white cabinetry.

Here’s an example of one of the house’s six bedrooms.

This close up shows the degree of curvature of the exterior wall.

The master bath (not virtually staged) has white calacatta marble with double vanity, soaking tub and separate shower. The house has a total of eight bathrooms.

The home also comes with an elevator, Lutron lighting system that incorporates museum-quality lighting to protect precious artwork, digital climate control, Miele appliances in the kitchen and 360 degree views from the deck. The maintenance fees are $2,000 per month and a minimum ten percent downpayment is required.

The best part is the deal includes the option to work with designers from Vinoly’s architecture firm to come up with the final details and remaining custom finishes.
