In human years she was 24 when she slipped away, leaving a gaping hole in the world of her owner Del O'Mahony.
And while experts differ on the exact equation to calculate a lifetime in dog years, for beloved Whippet KD it is estimated to be about 170.
She passed away on Thursday, June 15, a year after being diagnosed with dementia and needing 24 hour care at home.

Del, her owner of almost 10 years, said KD's loss has left a gaping hole in her home. She adopted KD when she was given up by a previous owner at the age of 15.
Del explained: "What a strange morning. KD was diagnosed with dementia about a year ago and as a result I have been sleeping on the sofa beside her as she would panic if she woke up and found I wasn't around.
"I woke up every hour to check on her and make sure she was safe, dry and comfortable. She also prone to falling out of her bed and having toilet accidents .
"Until today my morning routine and daily routine involved doing her meds , carrying her out to do toilet, bringing her back in. Then I'd change her bed, wash and dry her and be around her 24/ 7.
"She was worth every sacrifice. I would do it again in a heartbeat . If only they lived forever . KD was a very special lady and I'm heartbroken but how lucky was I to have been her mum."
