An asylum seekers' encampment was set alight last night following two days of violence in the area.
Homeless refugees had been staying in tents on a small cul-de-sac off Sandwith Street, near the International Protection Office. Violent clashes between the refugees and protesters began on Thursday but escalated last night.
Dozens of anti-migrant and pro-migrant protesters gathered in the area on Friday evening. There was a heavy garda presence and officers formed a barrier between the protesters.

One man in his 30s was arrested under the Public Order Act. He is due in court later this month.
Footage circulated online and seen by Dublin Live shows the encampment being swarmed and destroyed by protesters. Other footage shows the area set alight later in the evening.
A garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Gardai attended following reports of a protest / demonstration involving two groups of people in the Sandwith Street area of Dublin 2 on the evening of Friday May 12, 2023.
"Gardai engaged with those present and one male (30s) was later arrested under the Public Order Act. He has since been charged to appear before Dublin District Court later this month.
"As the groups involved dispersed some furniture and wooden pallets were set alight in a nearby lane way. No one was injured."
