Aston Villa vs Celtic warning issued amid Rangers ticket probe

Local police have issued a message to Aston Villa supporters ahead of next week's Champions League tie with Celtic.

West Midlands Police have told Villa fans NOT to react with violence should any Celtic fans be situated in the home end of Villa Park next Wednesday night.

It comes after lats night's clash between Manchester United and Rangers at Old Trafford.

Large groups of away supporters managed to infiltrate the home sections of the Theatre of Dreams, as videos and photos online were widely showcased.

Hundreds of Gers supporters could be seen and heard signing Rangers songs on the concourse of the stadium, as well as pro-Manchester City chants in the midst of their United counterparts.

Several videos have emerged online highlighting some of the disorder in the stands, home fans taking issue with Rangers fans who were not in the allocated away end, which followed on from earlier trouble between sets of fans from the two clubs in Manchester city centre.

The Premier League giants are investigating the matter.

With another installment of the Battle of Britain set to take place next week between Villa and Brendan Rodgers' side, the force in West Midlands say the club has 'tried hard' to prevent a similar scenario.

They posted on social media site X: “If there are away supporters located in home areas of the stadium on Wednesday evening, do not react with aggression or violence.

"Please allow Aston Villa staff or if required, the Police to deal with the matter.

"Aston Villa have tried hard to prevent this happening.”

Celtic have already guaranteed their spot in the Champions League play-off, but could still finish in the top eight with a win in Birmingham.

This would see them qualify for the last-16 automatically. Villa currently sit ninth in the table, while the Hoops are eighteenth - separated by just a point.
