Aston Villa star Rachel Daly finally explains her famous 'selfie celebration'

Aston Villa forward Rachel Daly has revealed the origin of her celebration with team-mate Kenza Dali after collecting her second Barclays Player of the Month award of the season.

Daly is the joint top scorer in the Women's Super League so far this year with eight goals, level with Mancester City' s Khadija Shaw. And during her recent hot streak in front of goal Daly begun to regularly celebrate in the same fashion.

Her and French midfielder Dali pose for an imaginary 'selfie', a sight that has now been seen at WSL grounds up and down the country as Daly continues to find the net.

The Lioness, whose goals have lifted Villa to seventh in the table at the time of the winter break, admitted to Smith that it wasn't pre-planned.

"I don't actually know where it came from," Daly told Sky Sports . "I can't remember why we started it, but Maz (Pacheco) was dying to get in on our celebration right from the beginning.

"It was Kenza (Dali) who actually came up with it. I don't know why, she just loves to take a selfie. We do it after every goal now. I don't know the full reason, but it was based on Maz just trying to get in on our selfies."

Both Daly and Dali have proven hugely successful signings for manager Carla Ward, since they arrived in the summer, with the French midfielder joining from Everton. After scoring the winner at Liverpool, Daly hit a hat-trick against Reading and got the winner in a League Cup game against Durham.

Daly's form in front of goal in the WSL has even saw her deployed as a central striker for England in November, after playing at left-back during the successful run at the Euros. As she talked through her goals scored during November, Daly explained to Smith that her and Dali have a great understanding on the pitch.

"Kenza is a tremendous player," she added. "I played with her when I was on-loan at West Ham. We've built up a really good relationship.

"That extends to training and we're fuming when we're not on the same team in small-sided games.

"She is a winner as well, she is a competitor and it is nice to have that so close to me on the pitch, with her playing in the '10' just behind me."
