Aston Villa suffered their second defeat in the Champions League this season as Monaco wrapped up a 1-0 win on the south coast of France – and here is our player ratings for the Premier League side.
Aston Villa Player Ratings Vs Monaco
Emiliano Martinez – 5.5
May have lost his clean sheet early on when he should’ve done better with a Monaco corner but pulled off a couple of brilliant saves to keep Villa in it.
Matty Cash – 6
Put in a few dangerous crosses which ultimately came to nothing. Was often caught high up the pitch when Monaco countered.
Tyrone Mings – 6
Had a lot on his plate with Takumi Minamino causing havoc for the hosts on counters. Made a number of good recoveries but was caught napping for Monaco’s opener.
Ezri Konsa – 5
Like his defensive partner, Konsa switched off momentarily at a Monaco corner which allowed Singo to take advantage and head home from close range.
Lucas Digne – 5
Booked and replaced after 67 minutes. Struggled with the pace of Monaco’s attackers.
Boubacar Kamara – 6
Did his job well alongside Tielemans but Monaco found it easy breaking Aston Villa down with their high line at times.
Youri Tielemans – 7
Made Villa tick from his deep-lying midfield role and was a bright spark for the visitors.
Emiliano Buendia – 6
Was positive in attack and looked for creative ways to break down Monaco’s defence in the No 10 role. However, all of Villa’s attack looked off the pace on the night.
Morgan Rogers – 5.5
Had a golden opportunity to level the score shortly into the second half but put his effort wide of the upright. Should have done better.
Leon Bailey – 5
Caused problems with his pace down the right in the first half but was brought off for Jhon Duran before the hour mark.
Ollie Watkins – 6
Did well to lead the line and played well in holding up the ball. Struggled to break down Singo and Kehrer in Monaco’s backline.
