Aston Villa have become the latest club to be linked with a move for Manchester United midfielder James Garner. MEN Sport revealed last Monday that Erik ten Hag had come to the decision to sell Garner having seen him as not being part of United's plans.
The decision baffled many Reds fans with the club lacking defensive midfield options. However on Friday, United announced that they had come to an agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of Casemiro.
This week plenty of clubs have been linked with a move for Garner. The Manchester Evening News understands that Southampton are the team who are leading the race for the 21-year-old's signature. Nottingham Forest, who loaned Garner last season, Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are all thought to be interested too.

However, according to The Sun, Villa are also looking at the United man alongside Newcastle United as Premier League clubs circle the midfielder. Elsewhere, the Reds are reportedly considering a move for Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos.
United are in need of a 'keeper to challenge David de Gea this season having sent Dean Henderson out on a season-long loan. Sports Mole reports that the 28-year-old is being considered for this role.
Despite Ten Hag's seeming lack of 'keeper options, MEN Sport reported on Sunday that Matej Kovar and Nathan Bishop could leave the club on loan. Their departures, if another goalkeeper is not signed would see Tom Heaton as United's reserve option to De Gea.
