Aston Villa in Brennan Johnson transfer link as 'interest building' in Nottingham Forest star

Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson has interest building from several clubs including Aston Villa, claims the Daily Mail.

Everton and West Ham are already said to be “keen” on the 22-year-old Reds star who scored eight Premier League goals in his debut top-flight season as the Reds avoided relegation under head coach Steve Cooper. Those performances have attracted interest from elsewhere in the country.

The Mail reported last week that Premier League rivals Everton and West Ham are both interested in signing Johnson who, the report claims, is valued at £40million by Forest, saying they will be preparing to “battle it out” for his signature during the summer transfer market.

Johnson came through the academy ranks at Forest before making his senior debut in the Championship four years ago. He has since developed into one of the club’s key players and has long had the attention of other clubs.

But with the summer transfer window set to open on Wednesday, could now be the turn of Villa, Everton and West Ham to make moves for the player. The Hammers have secured European football next season after winning the Europa Conference League, which would give them an advantage over Everton if Johnson is given a decision to make.

The youngster has already shown Everton what he can do up close, having scored twice against them in a 2-2 draw at the City Ground back in March.

While the level of Johnson’s performances this season has made interest inevitable, the Wales international may be best suited to staying at the City Ground for several reasons. He is at a club where he is loved and valued, so will not have to settle into a new environment.

He clearly enjoys working under Steve Cooper and, with one Premier League season under his belt, can really kick on even further next term.
