Aston Villa defender issues Manchester United warning to Liverpool ahead of Boxing Day clash

Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa has warned Liverpool ahead of their Boxing Day meeting as they look to carry the momentum from their win over Manchester United.

The Reds take on Villa in the Premier League on Monday in what will be their first league fixture since the conclusion of the World Cup. Liverpool’s last top flight encounter saw them beat Southampton 3-1 on November 12.

Since then, Jurgen Klopp ’s side took part in a training camp in Dubai and played friendlies against Lyon and AC Milan. Liverpool returned to England and played their Carabao Cup fourth round tie against Manchester City, but suffered a 3-2 defeat.

Liverpool are currently in sixth place in the Premier League table, four ahead of Villa who have a relatively new manager at the helm in Unai Emery. And now Ezri Konsa has issued a warning to the Reds ahead of their meeting.

Villa beat Man United 3-1 in the Premier League shortly before the season halted. Now Konsa has explained how he hopes the atmosphere at Villa Park will help him and his team-mates to do the same thing against Liverpool.

“We know how good they (Liverpool) are; they’re a really good team with really good players,” Konsa told Villa’s club website.

“Our focus is on us and concentrating on what we need to do. We’re focusing on our game plan, and if we do that, I’m sure we’ll come away with something on Monday.”

Konsa added: “It’s always a great atmosphere at Villa Park, and with the fans behind us anything is possible.

“Like you saw against Manchester United, with the fans behind us, it was amazing. I’m sure we can do the same on Boxing Day.”
