Aston Merrygold responds to being a political 'bad luck charm' after ITV Good Morning Britain appearance

Aston Merrygold has responded to claims he is a political 'bad luck charm' after his latest Good Morning Britain appearance coincided with Liz Truss resigning as Prime Minister. The JLS star appeared on the ITV news programme on Thursday (October 20).

He was on the show to chat about his brand new solo tour, titled 3AM, which kicked off the same night, with hosts Kate Garraway and Adil Ray. But during his appearance on the show, the hosts couldn't help but point out what happened during his last visit to the ITV studios.

Back in July, Aston was due to chat to Lorraine Kelly on her self-titled ITV show. But shortly before his planned in-person chat with the Scottish TV host, she revealed she needed to cross over to ITV News to update viewers about the then Prime Minister Boris Johnson's resignation.

During his appearance on Thursday, Kate mentioned: "The last time you were on the show, it happened to be that Boris Johnson resigned so could it be the same Aston effect be the same..." As Aston laughed, Adil shouted: "It's you!"

Kate then echoed: "Is it you?" to which the singer replied: "I'm not causing all of this," before he joked: "I'm trying to resolve it." And during Friday's edition of the show, entertainment editor Richard Arnold brought up the conversation from less than 24 hours before and shared an update from Aston.

"So could Aston actually be a political bad luck charm?" Richard asked before introducing a video from the man himself which he sent on following his gig. "Listen, I had the most amazing gig in Sheffield but I should probably say it's not my fault."

He went on: "It's not my fault and good luck to whoever the next Prime Minister it is. I'm a bit of an omen, apparently. But I'm off to Liverpool for the next gig and like I said when I see you next, good luck to the next Prime Minister."

Heading back live to the studio, Kate laughed as she remarked: "So he's like the equivalent of the octopus predicting. If Aston is on Good Morning Britian, there will be political change that day."
