Associate of 'Mr Flashy' caught with phone behind bars - after uploading video to Snapchat

An associate of mob boss ‘Mr Flashy’ has been caught with a phone behind bars after uploading a video to social media.

The foolish west Dublin criminal, 19, who is currently serving a sentence in Wheatfield Prison, was filmed partying inside his prison cell in a video uploaded to social media site ‘Snapchat’ over the weekend.

In the video the criminal, who we are not naming for legal reasons, is seen dancing and holding something up for the camera as music plays in the background.

Sources said that prison authorities then raided the criminal’s cell and discovered a mobile phone in his possession. It is also understood that the thug will now be formally disciplined and handed what is known as a ‘P19’ form by prison authorities.

It will likely mean he will have reduced visiting hours, tuck-shop privileges or access to certain facilities for a period of time. Mobile phones in prison are illegal and considered contraband - and a prisoner could find themselves even facing criminal charges over their possession.

This prisoner is also before the courts on a separate matter in relation to an alleged violent disorder incident. The young man is a known associate of the West Dublin mobster referred to as ‘Mr Flashy.”

‘Flashy’ is currently embroiled in a bitter feud that saw James ‘Whela’ Whelan brutally murdered in April of last year. Whelan (29) was shot dead after he attempted to murder an associate of Mr Flashy.

He was shot after he petrol bombed a property connected to his enemy in Finglas early in the morning of April 3. Whelan carried out that attack in revenge for a house linked to an associate of his being shot up hours earlier.

Sources say Whelan was seen by Flashy’s men when he carried out the petrol bomb attack and at least one of them chased him. He ran for his life but a key ally of Flashy pulled out a gun and fired a single shot at Whelan – hitting him in the back.

He was mortally wounded and died at the scene, despite the initial efforts of bystanders and then paramedics to save him. Sources said that Whelan was hit with a lucky shot – and almost escaped his killer.

Tensions have been high between both gangs since – with Whelan’s buddies vowing revenge. And just last weekend the home of an innocent female relative of ‘Mr Flashy’ was targeted in a horrific attack.

Pictures emerged of the aftermath of the attack which saw the porch doors of the house smashed in. It is the latest in a series of incidents between Mr Flashy, his associates and another feared West Dublin mob.

Mr Flashy himself has now survived numerous attempts on his life - and one of his closest associates was injured in a horror shooting in December last year.

The last assassination attempt on Flashy occurred in the summer of last year when a gunman opened fire at him as he sat in the back of a taxi.
