An allegation of common assault levelled at Hobart's lord mayor will be dropped after additional witnesses statements were considered.
Anna Reynolds was set to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court in May to face the charge stemming from May 11, 2022.
According to court documents, it was alleged Ms Reynolds grabbed the left bicep of Louise Elliot, who was elected to council in October, and pulled her down while applying pressure.
Tasmania Police on Monday issued a statement saying a charge of common assault against a 56-year-old woman would be discontinued following a review of the file by the department's principal legal officer.
"The review included consideration of additional witness statements. It was then determined the matter would be discontinued," Tasmania Police said.
"It is not appropriate to provide further comment."
Ms Reynolds, who was elected lord mayor in 2018, had in March pledged to "vigorously defend" herself against the allegation.
She said she was committed to working with Ms Elliot respectfully and constructively in the best interests of the community.
The charge followed an incident at a council meeting about the University of Tasmania's contentious move to the Hobart CBD.
