Anyone longing for more hay bail dives or tower climbs will be pleased with a Bloomberg report stating that Assassin’s Creed will return soon with fresh new twists on the formula.
Apparently, what began as an Assassin’s Creed Valhalla expansion is turning into a small-scale spinoff codenamed “Rift” and stars the character Basim. Stealth will be a massive part of gameplay, and the open world RPG elements won’t be as prominent. Whatever this game is, it’ll also be standalone, meaning you won’t have to own Assassin’s Creed Valhalla to play. The release date is slated for late 2022 or early 2023.
When asked about this mysterious project, a Ubisoft spokesperson was (unsurprisingly) tight-lipped.
“We have a solid and exciting line-up of titles in our pipeline, both established brands with new story twists and features, and brand new IPs that will continue to change the landscape of today’s video games,” Ubisoft said via Bloomberg. “We don’t comment or engage on rumors or speculation as they do a disservice to our development teams and community.”
NEW: Ubisoft turned an Assassin's Creed Valhalla expansion into a standalone game that will be out before AC Infinity, sources say. Focused on stealth, code-named Rift, stars Basim. Ubisoft's lineup has struggled due to scandal, attrition, and big delays https://t.co/qFTRsrRWy6

Ubisoft’s been going through tough times lately, with tons of employee departures and Hyper Scape shutting down. Time will tell if the company can turn things around before whatever the next Assassin’s Creed comes out.
