Cachar: The Assam Police seized a large quantity of heroin worth Rs 5 crore in Cachar district. The Police also apprehended one person in connection with this.
According to the reports, based on secret information, a team of Cachar district police on Saturday conducted a special operation at Chalchapra, NH 37 and intercepted one autorickshaw bearing registration number AS-11EC-4513.
"During search police recovered 47 soap cases of heroin weighing about 974 grams from the procession of a person named Sirukuddin Laskar (24 years old). The market price of the seized drugs is estimated at around Rs 3 crore," Numal Mahatta, Superintendent of Police of Cachar district said.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on 'X', "Based on secret inputs, @cacharpolice conducted a special operation at Chalchapra, NH 37 and intercepted a vehicle. Upon thorough search, 974gms of heroin costing Rs5cr, which was being transported from a neighbouring State was recovered from the vehicle. One person has been apprehended in this regard."
Earlier this week, the Assam Police have recovered a large cache of illegal arms and ammunition in the state's Udalguri district. The police have arrested two persons in connection with the recovery.
According to the Udalguri district police, the police team recovered arms and ammunition from Santipur village near Udalguri town under the Udalguri police station on Monday evening.
Pushkin Jain, Superintendent of Police of Udalguri district told ANI that, the police team recovered and seized one AK56 rifle, one magazine and 668 rounds of live ammunition from a house. (ANI)
