Aslan vow to be back 'bigger and better' after axed 3Arena gig

Aslan vowed to put on an “even bigger and better” show after tonight’s 3Arena gig was axed because of singer Christy Dignam’s health setback.

The Dublin band also thanked their loyal fans for the “love and support” since they announced the concert was going to be pushed back.

They said it’s been a really tough week but promised to be back “soon”. Christy, 62, who is undergoing treatment for cancer, was advised by his doctors not to perform tonight as part of their 40 years 40 gigs tour.

The Dubliner was diagnosed with an incurable blood cancer known as amyloidosis back in 2013 and has undergone several bouts of chemotherapy. A statement released by the band yesterday said: “We want to thank everyone for the love and support you have shown Christy, Joe, Alan and Billy.

“It’s been a really tough week for them all, especially Christy, but we will be back soon and we will have a new date for our 3Arena show and it will be even bigger and better.”

The band also confirmed a video of Christy singing Crazy World in the corridor of a hospital which has been circulating online was filmed a couple of months ago.

The short clip shows him belting out the band’s most famous song to other patients and hospital staff while somebody plays guitar next to him. They said the impromptu performance was something Christy enjoyed doing and said they couldn’t wait until he was doing it again.

The band explained on Twitter: “We need to clarify that the video that is being shared on social media is an old video from months ago.

“It’s great to see everyone enjoying it and this is something Christy enjoys doing at times when he is in hospital and he can’t wait until he’s back doing what he loves best.”
