The Nevada Athletic Commission has suspended Askar Mozharov in the wake of a positive drug test stemming from his lone UFC appearance.
At a monthly commission meeting Tuesday, it was announced that Mozharov has been temporarily suspended after he tested positive for GW1516 sulfone, a hormone and metabolic modulator, in a drug test surrounding his June 4 loss to Alonzo Menifield at UFC Fight Night 207.
Deputy attorney general Joel Bekker later told MMA Junkie the amount Mozharov tested positive for was below the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency threshold, so the fighter did not receive a suspension from the UFC’s anti-doping partner. The ruling on this disciplinary matter from a state commission standpoint was tabled. Discussions will occur over the next month, with anticipation of a resolution at the next monthly meeting Sept. 20.
The commission indicated Mozharov and/or his representatives have remained in communication with the commission through the process, though he is currently in Dubai.
In the lead-up to UFC Fight Night 207, Mozharov was the subject of much controversy and attention when leading MMA databases Sherdog and Tapology discovered that his professional record had been falsified, which Mozharov denied doing. At the start of fight week, his record was recognized as 25-7. By week’s end, it was 17-13.
Mozharov, 27, lost to Menifield by first-round TKO. He was subsequently released from the promotion. He has not been scheduled for a publicly known bout since.
