Asian fast-food restaurant planned for 'very lively' part of Nottingham city centre

An Asian fast-food restaurant has been planned for a 'very lively' part of Nottingham. Pan Asian restaurant WOWO could set up on King Street, Nottingham city centre, if the new plans are approved by Nottingham City Council.

The unit in the grade II listed building last hosted the city's first vegan deli No Homers. The Simpsons themed deli closed down after just seven months in June 2022.

In a planning document it was said that "26 King Street sits within a very lively part of Nottingham city centre, surrounded by public transport, retail, food and drink establishments and a great deal of heritage". The prospective operators of the new eatery explained customers would be able to order takeaway, delivery or eat in at the premises.

The proposed changes include a new WOWO shopfront, illuminated signage, and repairs to the existing shopfront. Some walls would be removed and constructed inside the unit to suit the operational needs of the business and staff, but none of the existing external details would be removed.

In a planning document, Citrus Creative on behalf of applicant Susan Proud, said: "Due to the Grade II listing of the property, all works relating to external shopfront and proposed internal works will be approached with absolute care. The proposal put forward, intends to ensure the character of the building and its appearance are maintained.

"The location of the proposed establishment will be in keeping with the surrounding businesses and the proposed design will emphasise the elegant, yet impactful surrounding shopfronts." The planning application is pending consideration by Nottingham City Council.
