After playing short yet impactful roles in films like ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram Leela’, ‘Mulk’, ‘Guilty’ and others, actor Ashrut Jain is all set to be a part of Rohit Shetty’s cop universe. Shetty is all set to make his digital debut with his upcoming show, ‘Indian Police Force’. In an exclusive interview with ETimes, the actor opened up about bagging the show, sharing screen space with actors like Sidharth Malhotra, Shilpa Shetty and Vivek Oberoi and more. Excerpts…
How did you come on board Rohit Shetty’s ‘Indian Police Force’?
I can never forget this. I was taught action by Rohit Shetty sir. This was the first time I was doing something in the action genre. Despite being a small actor on the set, Rohit sir made sure he taught me how to perform a stunt. It was an inspirational moment. I have learnt so much from him that I crave to do more and more action-related work now. I am very proud that my first action sequences were with Rohit Shetty. I don’t just consider him as a director, or someone who gave me a big opportunity but rather as a guru.
This is the first time you are working with Rohit Shetty. How was it to be a part of his cop universe?
Working with Rohit Shetty is the ultimate destination for an actor. He is a master class for action. I have seen him working and he has a brilliant eye for details. He can get an action sequence done so quickly. The way he designs his action sequences is mind-blowing. It is a delight for an actor to work under his direction. It is spectacular. You need to be blessed to be like that.
I came on board through the process of auditioning and when I was selected people on the set praised me for my intense audition. I am very thankful to Rohit sir and his entire team for the opportunity. Rohit sir has an amazing team. They are like a family and all in sync with each other. I really appreciate the way they make cinema and the way they love their craft. It is amazing.
The cop universe is way more visionary than we think. It is incredible. It will go beyond the boundaries of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The things that we created on the set are just outstanding and futuristic. His action designs are top-class. I think the RSCU (Rohit Shetty Cop Universe) has a way bigger potential than any other cinematic universe we will see in the future.
The film also stars ace actors like Shilpa Shetty and Sidharth Malhotra amongst others. How was it sharing screen space with them?
Shilpa Shetty, Sidharth Malhotra and Vivek Oberoi are all brilliant actors. They are master craftsmen. All of them light up the screen. They are perfectionists in what they do. They know exactly what Rohit sir wants and they deliver it perfectly. It is a delight to watch them perform. You get to learn so much as a junior. You interact with them when they are free and the stories they tell you from the experiences they have had, build you as an actor. It is a blessing to work with such legends.
Also, they are all very serious about fitness. They work really hard to look the way they look. I think fitness is a very important part of today’s world. This is not just for actors, but for everyone.
Which is your all-time favourite movie of Rohit Shetty?
I love every film by Rohit Shetty. It is difficult to pick one name. However, if I have to, I will choose ‘Simmba’ because I love Ranveer Singh. Rohit Shetty and Ranveer Singh’s combination is like dynamite.
