Ashley Judd has warned of the "clumsiness associated with grief", after she broke her leg following her mum's tragic death.
The actress, 54, said she had been involved in a "freak accident" over the summer while mourning her mum Naomi Judd and was left with a fractured leg. Ashley said other members of her family had also suffered injuries recently.
The Double Jeopardy star said the fracture "healed in two months" and allowed her to take time to process her mother's death.
"Clumsiness is associated with grief, and there were other people in our family, after mom died, who fell down stairs and had accidents, and that’s just what mine happened to look like.
"It really allowed me to grieve.
"It really allowed me to stop what I was working on at that moment and to grieve," Ashley said during a conversation with Dr. Jonathan Flint in an Open Mind lecture on Wednesday according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Her leg fracture came just two years after she shattered her leg in four places during a hiking excursion in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Ashley had tripped over a fallen tree, leading to her suffering the catastrophic injury which led to a scary rescue mission and months-long recovery.
Ashley's mum died by suicide in April and the Hollywood star had been the one to find the 76-year-old singer’s body.
The Emmy nominee and her sister, Wynonna Judd, confirmed their mum's death in a joint statement at the time.
"Today we sisters experienced a tragedy. We lost our beautiful mother to the disease of mental illness. We are shattered," the siblings wrote.
"We are navigating profound grief and know that as we loved her, she was loved by her public. We are in unknown territory."
Rumours had started circulating that Ashley and 58-year-old Wynonna have been fighting over Naomi's will, but Wynonna slammed the claims in a recent interview.
She said there has been "no argument" over the legal document.
"Fighting over what? I have such a great life. Ashley has a great life. Why would we be fighting over the will?" she told People.
