Ashley Banjo may not return to Dancing On Ice as bosses haven't 'given him green light'

TV star Ashley Banjo revealed he might not be returning to Dancing On Ice as ITV bosses have not given him 'the green light' yet.

The Diversity star, 33, joined the skating competition in 2018 but isn't sure he will be a judge alongside Oti Mabuse, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean again in next series.

"The producers have told me that the show will be returning for another series, but they haven’t given me the green light yet," he explained.

"I have my fingers crossed that they will ask me back," he said to the Daily Star Sunday newspaper.

The dancer and choreographer thought he would never 'really care about ice dancing', but he ended up falling in love with the sport as well as the contestants.

Ashley – who is now on tour with Diversity – also hosts ITV's The Real Full Monty and E4's Flirty Dancing.

It comes after the star revealed he still receives online abuse from trolls almost two years after Diversity performed a Black Lives Matter-inspired routine on Britain's Got Talent.

He had an interview on Good Morning Britain last month and it spark a new round of hostility from angry viewers.

“It happens all the time,” he said to Mirror.

“I did this slot on GMB to talk about how life-changing it was winning a BAFTA for the routine and I went on Twitter afterwards, and it was just like a stream of comments.

"The negative ones always cut through."

The negativity didn't stop Ashley from speaking up and showcasing the dance as he has been performing the routine as part of the Diversity tour.

“Every night, I go down and take that knee and there’s a little part of me that just kind of goes, ‘I wonder what’s gonna happen’. You just don’t know,” he said.

The routine has gone down well with fans who have flocked to see the group on their Connected tour.

“We never got the opportunity to perform that routine in front of a crowd at the time because of Covid,” he added.

Ofcom received more than 31,000 complaints after the troupe’s Britain's Got Talent performance in September 2020.
