Ashes hero Head gets state cricket gong

The accolades are piling up for Travis Head, who was named domestic cricketer of the year. (AAP)

Travis Head can lay claim to being king of both Australia's international and state cricket after being named men's domestic player of the year.

Head was on Friday awarded one of the two main domestic awards for the summer, with Elyse Villani claiming the women's honours.

It comes after a 12-month period where Head hit 832 runs at 59.42 in Sheffield Shield cricket, as well as 582 at 64.67 in the one-day cup.

It was Head's form in state cricket that earned him an international recall, before starring in this summer's Ashes.

He was named man of that series just last week, while also topping the run-scoring charts despite missing a Test through COVID-19.

Head has also found himself back in Australia's white-ball group, picked in the squad to take on Sri Lanka ahead of a home World Cup this year.

Tasmania's Tim Ward was also rewarded for his big start to the Shield season on Friday.

Ward was named the Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year, after being the leading run-scorer in the Shield so far this season in his first full summer with 467 at 51.88.

Villani's award meanwhile is a reward for persistence.

She topped the charts in last season's 50-over WNCL competition and was the third-leading run-scorer in this summer's WBBL.

The Victorian was unlucky to miss out on an Australian recall this month, with Grace Harris picked ahead of her for the T20 component of the Ashes series.

Meanwhile, Darcie Brown was named the Betty Wilson Young Cricketer of the Year, on the same day the South Australian quick claimed her first Test wicket.

AUSTRALIAN CRICKET AWARDS DOMESTIC WINNERS:

Male Domestic Player of the Year - Travis Head

Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year - Tim Ward

Female Domestic Player of the Year - Elyse Villani

Betty Wilson Young Cricketer of the Year - Darcie Brown.
